THINK CITRUS!
These everyday plants are so undervalued.
They have so many positive features, all contained in the one tree! We all remember the citrus tree in our grandparent’s backyard, to be climbed or gather fruit, part of our Australian culture.
This medium sized tree can be used as a specimen tree, a hedge, espaliered against a wall in tight spaces or grown over a pergola to provide shade and the edible fruit as a bonus.
So, it’s not just the fruit to consider, but the flowers with their lovely fresh smell and leaves. The branches can be used inside in a vase, showing off the brightly coloured fruit and flowers, and they last much longer than a bunch of flowers.
Citrus in pots could be used in a high light area close to windows, and occasionally rotated outside for respite
Citrus trees are ideal for Sydney’s climate and only require basic maintenance of plenty of water and fertiliser, so next time you are thinking about what plant to buy contact Angela.
